THE WORK
This piece uses a deep blue sky to contrast against sunlit architecture. To represent extreme brightness, the paper white is left untouched in key areas. Shadows are rendered in thin purple washes to suggest the shimmering heat haze, while sharp lines of overhead wires anchor the narrow space and draw the eye toward the dome.
THE INSPIRATION
Part of the Light of Vienna collection, this work captures the specific moment when asphalt radiates heat. It portrays the physical weight of a Viennese summer afternoon and the silence that comes with extreme light, where deep shadows become a necessary sanctuary from the midday glare.
