THE WORK
Dusk over a city that exists on no map. Ornate rooftops, dormer windows and wrought-iron balconies catch the last violet light. The sky burns pink and indigo above the chimneys. On one balcony a lone figure stands, back turned, watching the day go out. To the right, a single window glows warm gold — someone else's light, someone else's home. The figure looks toward it from across the rooftops.
THE INSPIRATION
No city on any map.
And that is the point, loneliness keeps no address.
However beautiful the rooftops, however golden the window across the way, the heart can stand on its balcony and find no home in any of it.
We are all looking for the same lit window.
