THE WORK
A steep Lisbon street at dusk, washed in cool blue and lilac. The famous yellow tram climbs the curving rails, its warm body the one bright note in a cool city. Pastel houses lean down the hill, an old street lamp curls from a wall, and church domes float in the haze toward the river below. A lone figure walks down the cobbled lane, away from us, toward the water and the fading light.
THE INSPIRATION
The tram climbs, the street falls, the river waits at the bottom of the hill.
Everyone here is going somewhere, and still one figure walks alone.
A city of bright trams and warm stone can hold a cold and quiet heart.
We ride the same rails, and arrive alone.
